Evan Ferguson, a Republic of Ireland striker, signed a new long-term contract with Brighton last week that will keep him at the Amex until 2029.
After scoring his first goal against Arsenal on the final day of 2022, the 19-year-old has been one of the EPL’s breakout players in 2023, scoring 11 goals in the top flight. Ferguson has been linked with both Manchester United and Tottenham in recent months, but Brighton have made it clear that they are not ready to part ways with their in-demand player just yet.
They have now signed Ferguson to a long-term contract, with the Irish striker believed to be one of the club’s top five highest paid players. Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi says the striker is worthy of the pay rise that will come with the new deal.
Ferguson, from Bettystown in County Meath, joined the Seagulls in 2021 after leaving Bohemians. He is also eligible for England because his mother is English. Ferguson simply replied on Talksport Radio in the UK last week when asked why he is so committed to playing for Ireland. ”Because I’m Irish,” she says. Most experts believe Ferguson will leave Brighton before 2029, but the south coast club has now ensured a large pay-out if their teenager does leave.
