Chris Kamara, 65, is now in a much better place thanks to the help of family and friends.
Chris Kamara, a football legend, has revealed that he considered suicide after receiving a life-changing health diagnosis.
The successful pundit and former Leeds United and Bradford City player has opened up about his health fight. It has been well reported in recent years that Kammy, 65, has had his speech damaged following his apraxia diagnosis.
He has advocated for the government to enhance speech treatment funding for those with speech difficulties. According to our colleagues at The Mirror, Kammy has boldly opened up about how low his diagnosis originally made him feel.
“I thought of Gary Speed (another Leeds United legend who committed suicide in 2011), and then I thought of my own situation – a man in his mid-60s whose best days were gone due to a brain condition, struggling on while becoming a weight on everyone around him.” Whose wife and children would have to bear with whatever I turned out to be.
“That was not what I wanted for Anne and the boys.” So, how do you keep that from happening again? You remove yourself from the picture.
“There were definitely times when I thought that was a way out.” If you’re trapped in a maze with no way out, you’ll inevitably resort to extreme measures. Especially if you’ve opted to explore the maze by yourself.”
Thankfully, with the help of friends and family, the former footballer has changed his mind and is using his platform to raise awareness for individuals who have difficulty speaking. As previously reported, Kammy recently stated that his diagnosis precluded him from participating on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! Nonetheless, we believe the public would enjoy him there.
