Xabi Alonso of Bayer Leverkusen is the man to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, according to Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto de Zerbi.
According to Bernabeu Digital, a Real Madrid fan website, the Brighton coach isn’t interested in appearing at the Santiago Bernabeu.
According to reports this week, De Zerbi could be an option for Real Madrid, who have yet to decide whether to extend Ancelotti‘s current contract beyond next summer.
That could be taken away from them because the Italian has long been linked with the Brazil job, which several reports indicate he is eager to take.
In any case, a replacement may be required, and De Zerbi’s impressive start at Brighton has apparently put him on the radar.
Bernabeu Digital, on the other hand, claims that it makes no sense for anyone to ‘come up with names’ at this point in the season because there is still a long way to go, and Ancelotti could even renew his contract.
They accept that ‘the stalking is on’ and that he could end up as Brazil manager, but even if that happens, Xabi Alonso would be ‘the only replacement’.
Their argument is that while De Zerbi would provide a “more than good future” if the club allowed him to work, the reality is that the Spanish giants demand the best and cannot afford to let the Italian build as he is at Brighton.
That is not the case with Alonso, who is already performing at a high level for Leverkusen and ‘knows the house’ after spending some of his playing career there.
He is ‘perfect for the position’ and should be the ‘only name being considered’ if Ancelotti leaves soon.
