Jamie Carragher has lambasted Premier League clubs voting to preserve loans among connected clubs, arguing that a regulation change is required.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has lambasted a few Premier League clubs’ decision to allow loans between affiliated clubs to continue, calling for a major revamp of the voting system. It happened ahead of the January transfer window, with major ramifications.

The suggested modifications might have prevented teams from loaning players from other clubs under the same ownership umbrella. The most recent example has been Newcastle United, whose ownership is the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, which also owns a number of Saudi Pro League teams.

The current increase in money has resulted in a strong effort to sign some of the world’s biggest players in order to put the league on the map. Over the last year, stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, and others have moved to Saudi Arabia for large sums of money.

In principle, any of them might now join the Magpies in January to assist enhance their squad choices for the second half of the season. However, the transactions must fall under UEFA’s fair market value for a loan, which means they cannot simply land them for free without a reasonable explanation.

Nonetheless, it may provide the club with access to top-tier players that other teams may not be able to secure. Newcastle aren’t the only team with relations through a multi-club format; Manchester City, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, and Nottingham Forest are just a few others, though their voting intentions are unknown at the moment.
