Paul Merson believes Aston Villa will earn a point at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Merson predicted the game for Sportskeeda and believes Unai Emery and Ange Postecoglou will be forced to share the points.
After an outstanding start to the season, Aston Villa head into Sunday’s showdown in North London full of confidence.
The Villains are now fifth in the table, one point behind Tottenham Hotspur.
Of course, Tottenham have had a promising start to life under Postecoglou. The North Londoners were flying high at the top of the table before suffering five-day setbacks to Chelsea and Wolves.
Spurs will also be without injured James Maddison and Micky van de Ven, while Cristian Romero is still suspended.
Despite missing numerous key players, Paul Merson believes they performed admirably without the three at Molineux and believes they can earn a draw against an in-form Villa team.
Merson believes Tottenham will beat Villa.
Merson predicted a 1-1 draw between Spurs and Villa in an interview with Sportskeeda.
“With the exception of that crazy few minutes at the end of the game against Wolves, Spurs played well in that game.”
“As for Aston Villa, finishing in the top four with an away record like theirs is difficult.” They must travel to Tottenham and avoid being defeated there.
“As things stand, they’re putting too much pressure on themselves to do it all at Villa Park.” But that bubble will eventually break when the big teams come to visit. Whoever wins this game will have a big impact.
“The international break could be a bit of an equaliser and I think the points will be shared here.”
Spurs have most likely benefited from the international break since it has allowed them to regroup after a hectic week.
They will also be bolstered by the return of Destiny Udogie, who has confirmed he is able to participate after missing the Italy squad due to a hamstring injury.
Villa have struggled on the road this season, suffering a number of dismal defeats.
Tottenham, however, face a stern test on Sunday considering their present injury problems.
We believe Merson is correct in his prognosis and anticipate a high-scoring draw on Sunday.
