A former player for Leeds United was fired from his position with a team in Ligue 2.
After leading Troyes of Ligue 2 to just three victories in his 40 games, Patrick Kisnorbo, a former Leeds United player, was let go. After spending three years as a player at Melbourne City in Australia between 2013 and 2016, the former Whites star began his coaching career there.
Prior to being elevated to assistant manager of the women’s team, he began with the youth squad. Later on, he was promoted to manager of Melbourne City women before joining the men’s team as an assistant. After being named the team’s first-team manager in 2020, he oversaw 74 games, winning 43 of them, losing just 15, and drawing the remaining 16. With Melbourne, he won the A-League Championship in 2021 after finishing first two times in the competition. In the A-League, the top team does not always win the competition because the winners are determined by a play-off finals series.
Twelve months ago, Kisnorbo relocated to Troyes, where he plays for the French club owned by City Football Group, which also owns Melbourne and Manchester City, the reigning Premier League champions. The team was demoted to Ligue 2, where they are currently ranked 17th in the French second division, after finishing 13th in Ligue 1 last November. In his 40 games in charge, Kisnorbo lost 23 and drew 14, winning just 3. In a brief statement, Troyes confirmed: “The management of ESTAC, in consultation with its shareholder, today notified Patrick Kisnorbo, the coach of the professional team, of his dismissal as a precautionary measure.”
Troyes‘ third straight loss in all competitions came at home to Guingamp, 1-0, in Kisnorbo‘s last game in charge. Before that run, Troyes had drawn their previous three games and defeated SM Caen 2-1. Having previously played for Hearts of the Scottish Premiership and South Melbourne, he joined Leeds in 2009 from Leicester City.
He made 58 Whites appearances and scored one goal. He was a crucial part of the Whites’ 2010 promotion from League One and was present at Old Trafford for the historic FA Cup third-round victory in January. At the end-of-season awards, Kisnorbo won both the Players’ Player of the Year and the Club’s Player of the Year titles. Due to injury, he had to end his season early. This setback also prevented him from competing in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. After an outstanding debut season, he became a fan favourite before leaving Elland Road for Melbourne in 2013.
