Exit-linked Leeds United player may have played last game after Farke’s words today.

Junior Firpo has almost certainly played his final game for Leeds United since Daniel Farke’s appointment.

After Daniel Farke‘s injury update on Friday (1 December), Junior Firpo may have played his final game for Leeds United.

In his pre-match press conference on 1 December, the Whites manager revealed that the Dominican Republic international defender is currently nursing a hamstring injury sustained in the 3-1 win over Swansea and will be out for up to three weeks.

Junior Firpo

Due to injury, the former Real Betis defender has only made one start this season and returned to the Whites matchday squad in their 1-0 win over Leicester City before starting against Rotherham on November 24.

However, in a fresh blow for Firpo, it seems his 10-minute cameo against Swansea on Wednesday (29 November) could well be his last in a Leeds United shirt with the interest in his services ramping up ahead of the January transfer window.

Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato reported on November 28 that his former club Real Betis are pursuing a loan deal for the left-back in January, with Manuel Pellegrini eager to bring him back to Seville.

Firpo is said to want to leave Elland Road in the winter, and Betis want to bring him in on a loan deal, similar to what they did with Marc Roca last summer.

The 27-year-old looked set to leave in the summer before suffering an injury that put an end to any speculation, and after finally recovering from that issue, he has returned to the squad under Farke.

The Leeds United left-back has only recently returned to full fitness following a spell out, but given the form of Sam Byram in his position, a move away from Elland Road is not entirely out of the question.

Firpo played the best football of his career at Betis, but it hasn’t worked out for him at Elland Road since his summer 2021 transfer, where he has made 54 appearances, registering two goals and four assists [Transfermarkt].

It’s clear that the defender wants to return to Betis, where he made his name, and given that he’ll be out for a few weeks, Farke may have settled on a consistent back-line by the time Firpo returns, which means he won’t be seen again at Elland Road.

A January exit now appears to be a real possibility.
