Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi says he has begun contract negotiations.
De Zerbi, who will succeed Graham Potter in September 2022, led the Seagulls to sixth place and European qualification for the first-time last season.
Brighton is eighth in the Premier League and have qualified for the Europa League knockout stages.
“I usually work to be happy and enjoy myself, and I feel very good in Brighton,” said the 44-year-old, whose current contract is set to expire in 2026.
“I have a fantastic relationship with the players, the club, Tony [Bloom, chairman], Paul Barber [CEO], David Weir [Technical Director], and everyone who works in Brighton.”
“Yes, we are speaking about the new contract but at the moment we are [only] speaking, it’s not done yet.”
Brighton‘s progress under De Zerbi has sparked interest from other clubs.
However, the former Sassuolo and Shakhtar Donetsk manager has stated that he has no plans to leave Amex Stadium as long as the club shares his ambitions.
“At the end of the day, we have to analyze the target.” Working in Brighton is an honor if the goals are the same as those of the club. “I don’t strive for a higher level,” the Italian added.
“The most important thing for me is to work seriously, with a good team and good players.” It’s critical for me to hit a key target.”
