Last night, a £3 million player who was expected to join Leeds in January failed to make an appearance.

David Turnbull was linked with a move to Leeds United earlier this week, with the Celtic star’s contract scheduled to expire at the end of the season – and he was left on the bench on Wednesday.

Turnbull, 24, has been in fine form for Celtic recently despite struggling to get a start under Brendan Rodgers at Parkhead. Matt O’Riley, a target for Leeds United, and Reo Hatate continue to keep him out.

The £3m man has only appeared in eight of Celtic‘s sixteen Premiership games. Turnbull had four goals in his previous five league appearances coming into Wednesday’s match against Hibernian at home. But he was unaccustomed to it.

John Hartson was contemplating Turnbull‘s future earlier this week, as his contract expires next summer. He believes the Scotland international might join a top-tier Championship club, specifically Leeds.  It came just a few days before Rodgers opted to keep Scotland’s captain on the bench, despite his great recent play. Turnbull may be wondering what else he can do to get a chance in the Celtic lineup.  David Turnbull was dropped by Celtic after being linked with Leeds.  Leeds did not sign a No.10 throughout the summer. Among those associated with a move to Elland Road were O’Riley, Nadiem Amiri, and Kenny McLean. The number ten spot is now held by Joel Piroe.
JOEL PIROE
Leeds has choices, but not true No.10s. Piroe is, by nature, a striker. Georginio Rutter, as well. Joe Gelhardt is struggling for playing time and has been plagued by injuries so far this season.  Leeds could use another option at 10, and Turnbull would provide that as well as depth in the centre of the park. Given his contract predicament, he will most likely be available for a low price.
