Louis Saha believes Manchester United should recruit Bayern Munich icon Thomas Muller.

Manchester United legend Louis Saha believes Bayern Munich legend Thomas Muller would be a terrific addition to the club.

Muller has spent his whole career with the German giants, where he has won 12 Bundesliga titles, two Champions Leagues, and the 2014 World Cup.  The forward has made 681 appearances for the club, scoring 237 goals and assisting 261 times, but his time in Munich may be coming to an end as his contract expires at the end of the season.  According to reports, he will not sign an extension and is considering leaving the Allianz after falling down the pecking order in Thomas Tuchel‘s club, starting just six games across all competitions this season.

United are among the clubs thought to be interested in signing Muller next summer, with Erik ten Hag apparently trying to sign the 34-year-old last January.

Former Manchester United forward Louis Saha believes he would be a wise – but short-term – addition for the team, which has struggled for consistency this season.

Discussing the Muller links, Saha told Betfred: ‘He’s undoubtedly a terrific leader that’s admired across the footballing world. He’s spent several years with one of the world’s top clubs, Bayern Munich, and he’s accomplished a lot.

He’s not as swift or as clinical as [Robert] Lewandowski was for Bayern, but he’s such an accomplished forward that no one can deny his talent. He’s a really intelligent athlete with a lot of charisma.

‘He may be 34 years old, but he might still be an option for Manchester United, even if he isn’t a long-term replacement for Erik ten Hag. Few players in the world have Muller’s combination of personality and experience.

‘This is comparable to when Manchester United signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo. Those players had no reservations about their talent or quality, and they were willing to face anyone. They would put themselves and their comrades to the test. This is exactly what we require.

Every time those players took the pitch for Manchester United, they had drive, confidence and the bravery to take the ball whether they were playing well or not. They did not avoid their responsibilities.’  Following their win over Chelsea on Wednesday night, United are now sixth in the rankings, just three points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.  The Red Devils play Bournemouth on Saturday before visiting Bayern Munich in a must-win Champions League match on Tuesday night.
