Leicester City is considering a transfer swoop for a Nottingham Forest player

Leicester City are rumoured to be interested in Nottingham Forest midfielder Joe Worrall.

Leicester City are said to be competing with Middlesbrough for Nottingham Forest’s Joe Worrall‘s signature in the January transfer window.

Joe Worrall is leaving Nottingham Forest.

Worrall, 26, has fallen out of favour at the City Ground, with his last game coming in October, and it has been reported that he, along with colleague Scott McKenna, is no longer training with the main group.

Willy Boly, Murillo, Moussa Niakhate, and Felipe are all ahead of academy graduates in the pecking order, which appears unlikely to change even if Steve Cooper is fired.

Leicester have entered the race to sign Joe Worrall.
With Worrall potentially available, it’s not surprising that Championship clubs are interested in him, given he has established himself at this level in the past, including shining for the Reds in their promotion to the Premier League in 2022.

Boro are reportedly interested in signing the former Rangers loanee, but the Daily Mail reports that they will face competition, with Leicester also interested in the defender.

“Leicester City and Middlesbrough are interested in Nottingham Forest captain Joe Worrall ahead of the January transfer window.”

“Worrall is understood to be attracting interest from Leicester and Middlesbrough, while other Championship sides are understood to be tracking the 26-year-old centre-back.”

Enzo Maresca has a lot of defensive alternatives.

You can see why Championship clubs are interested in Worrall since he is a combative centre-back who is also a real leader, making him a vital player for most clubs in the second division.

However, you could argue that he is not an improvement at Leicester, who have some quality alternatives at the back.

Under Maresca, Jannik Vestergaard has been changed, and his partnership with Wout Faes has been crucial to the team having the best defensive record in the league, with only 12 goals conceded.

Conor Coady is a solid backup option behind those two, with Harry Souttar scarcely receiving a look-in despite previously shining in the Championship with Stoke.

So, while there are always ways to improve, it appears that a move to recruit Worrall by Leicester would be a significant surprise.

Also, from the player’s standpoint, he will undoubtedly prefer to join a team that will provide him guaranteed minutes; otherwise, he may believe it is worthwhile to stay at Forest and try to reclaim his place, if at all feasible.

Steve Cooper

Worrall only signed a contract extension in September that will keep him at Forest until the summer of 2026.

Leicester’s objective in the coming year will be to maintain their squad intact, knowing that some of their best players may receive attention.

Wilfred Ndidi is already said to be on Barcelona‘s radar, while Kelechi Iheanacho is another player who could go since his contract expires in six months.

Maresca‘s team returns to play on Saturday when they host Plymouth at the King Power Stadium.
