Alan Shearer’s assessment is spot on as Newcastle lose 4-1 to Tottenham.

Alan Shearer, a Newcastle United great, has refused to make excuses after the Magpies were thrashed 4-1 by Tottenham Hotspur.

Eddie Howe had to select the same 10 outfielders for the fifth game in a row, and it quickly became clear that fatigue would be an issue once again.

Newcastle struggled in the first half but showed glimpses of life after the interval. However, Richarlison made it 3-0 to put an end to any hopes of a Toon comeback.

Son Heung Min then made it four, before Joelinton salvaged a point for Eddie Howe‘s team. Did we earn it? Maybe not, but it gave the travelling Toon Army something to cheer about after their journey to London proved arduous due to train problems.

However, Newcastle have struggled once again on the road, with Howe‘s team still having only one league win away from home all season. Their record away from St James’ Park is deplorable and urgently has to improve.

Alan Shearer was dissatisfied with Newcastle’s performance against Tottenham Hotspur.

Newcastle United had a miserable afternoon, as Alan Shearer explained why Spurs were so much better than the Magpies on the Premier League’s official website.

“No complaints, the best team won by a mile,” he went on to say.

“They were fitter, stronger, and faster.” They passed it better than Newcastle and generated more opportunities. I don’t want to use fatigue as an excuse because I dislike it, but Newcastle looked flat from the start.”

Newcastle must perform better against AC Milan on Wednesday.

Everything Shearer says is accurate. Tottenham outperformed Newcastle in almost every category, particularly possession.

That was the main concern for the Magpies. We were so wasteful with the ball, sloppily throwing it away on numerous times. After the half, our ball retention improved, but even when he could hold possession, it was slow and cumbersome.

Newcastle were flat against Spurs, as Shearer observes, and they sorely need to pick up their game against AC Milan on Wednesday night. That is our most important game of the season so far, and a win is necessary to keep our Champions League hopes alive.

At home, however, we are a different beast.
