Pundit believes Spurs star is now ‘a headache’ for Ange Postecoglou.

  • Jamie O’Hara is frustrated by Cristian Romero’s lack of discipline, implying that the Argentine would never modify his proclivity for risky challenges.

Romero had only recently returned from a three-game suspension after being sent off for a foul on Enzo Fernandez last month, but in his second game back, the centre-back nearly made the same error.

Christian Romero

In the 80th minute, with Spurs cruising to a win over Newcastle, the 25-year-old put in a vicious challenge on Callum Wilson, his studs striking the Magpies striker in the ankle.

Fortunately for Tottenham and the defence, Referee Chris Kavanagh chose a yellow card over a red.

Several analysts, including Gary Neville, Michael Dawson, and Jamie Redknapp, have said Romero was fortunate not to be sent off, with the latter questioning the example the Argentine is sending to the club’s younger players as vice-captain (Sky Sports via The Mirror).

Cristian Romero is expected to commit another infraction – O’Hara.

O’Hara believes Romero lacks the motivation to modify his methods, noting that the centre-back is becoming a headache for Ange Postecoglou.

“I just don’t understand what goes through his head, he’s a fantastic player, world-class player,” the former Tottenham midfielder said of the tackle on talkSPORT (12 December, 9.40 a.m.).

“And I know he plays on the edge; there are players who always play on the edge.” You’ve just completed a three-game suspension.

“If he’s sent off, he’ll get four games, so I just think he needs to learn to [stop], but I don’t think he can.” I believe it’s just in his nature as a player, and the way he tackles is aggressive.

Callum Wilson

“He’s a problem for us, but the players support him, and he does play on the edge and is brilliant when he’s on the pitch.” The issue is that he does not devote enough time to it.”

Spurs Online Opinion

I have no doubt that Postescoglou or one of his aides would examine the tackle with Romero and tell him that he was fortunate to avoid harsher punishment. It remains to be seen whether this has the desired effect on the 25-year-old.
