Mike Dodds has reacted to Daniel Farke’s criticism of Sunderland’s 2-1 victory over Leeds United on Tuesday night.
Mike Dodds has responded to Daniel Farke‘s claims that Sunderland parked the bus on Tuesday night.
The Black Cats earned an important 1-0 win over the Yorkshire club in midweek, keeping them in the Championship’s top six.
Farke expressed his displeasure with the home team’s defensive tactics after the game.
“They tried to park the bus and be there with counter-attacks, and they did it extremely well,” the German said, according to Chronicle Live.
Leeds’ six-game winning streak came to an end, closing the gap between the two teams to eight points.
Farke’s criticism is met with a response from Dodds.
Dodds responded diplomatically to his opponent’s criticisms, praising the quality that Leeds possesses.
Farke, according to the Sunderland caretaker manager, will reflect on the game later and realise that his team performed admirably in their efforts to secure all three points on Tuesday night.
“I’ll answer this diplomatically,” Dodds said, according to Chronicle Live.
“We’ve taken six points from two really, really, strong opponents [West Bromwich Albion on Saturday] – two really, really, good coaches [the Baggies’ Carlos Corberan and then Farke].”
“I’m sure when he [Farke] watches the game back, which I know a lot of good coaches do, I’m sure he will appreciate just how good we were this evening.”
Dodds has overseen two games as Sunderland’s interim manager, taking over the first team squad following Tony Mowbray‘s departure earlier this month.
Wins over West Brom and Leeds have helped to turn the team’s fortunes around after Mowbray was fired after three games without a win.
Sunderland are now sixth in the Championship table as the season nears its halfway point.
The Wearside club will aim to finish in the top six again this season, after finishing sixth last year.
The defeat to Luton Town in the play-off semi-finals ended their hopes of achieving back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League.
Will Still has been named as the front-runner to take over as the Stadium of Light’s next permanent manager, but it remains to be seen whether an agreement can be reached with the Reims manager.
Sunderland’s next match is against Bristol City on December 16 at Ashton Gate.
Dodds responded in style.
Dodds did not respond to Farke’s comments, which is probably for the best for Sunderland’s caretaker manager.
Given that he is only in charge for a limited time, there is no reason to create controversies or focus on anything other than the results.
Dodds took over in difficult circumstances and has done an outstanding job, so he deserves credit for overseeing two victories.
This was a wise response from the 37-year-old, and their focus can now shift to Saturday’s game in Bristol.
