According to the Irish Independent, Leeds United’s transfer hopes have been boosted by the news that 18-year-old St Patrick’s Athletic wonderkid Sam Curtis is about to depart the club.
On November 22, 90min stated that Leeds is joined in their chase by Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Tottenham, as well as rival Championship club Hull.
Of course, beating Manchester United and Liverpool to the young Irishman will be difficult, but a clearer pathway into the first-team structure at Elland Road, as illustrated by the likes of Archie Gray, may be enough to persuade him to transfer to Yorkshire.
Curtis was named to the FAI Team of the Year and was nominated for FAI Young Player of the Year last season, demonstrating how highly respected he is in Ireland despite his young age and scant experience.
Curtis has made 34 appearances in the Irish Premier Division this season, netting three goals and dishing out three assists from right-back. He has also participated twice in the Europa Conference League qualification rounds, accumulating some elite experience.
With players like Brighton’s Evan Ferguson, who the Seagulls bought from the League of Ireland and gave time to develop in their academy, Leeds may find themselves sitting on a wealth of talent.
It appears that the Whites would pull off a major coup if they can entice the astounding 18-year-old to Elland Road.
