Report: A rumored Tottenham target’s release clause has now expired.

Jonathan Tah’s rumored release clause has reportedly expired, according to the German publication Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger (1107/23 – as reported by BuliNews).

As a result, interested teams would have to negotiate a fee with Bayer Leverkusen.

Spurs are reportedly aiming to make significant changes at center-back this summer (Football.London), and Edmond Taposba of Leverkusen has emerged as one of the North London club’s main targets in recent weeks (Fabrizio Romano – CaughtOffside).

Tah, Tapsoba‘s partner in the center of defense, was said to be a target for Tottenham earlier this summer. According to 90 minutes, Spurs are one of many Premier League teams interested in signing the 27-year-old.

Despite Spurs rumors, Tah’s release clause has expired.

According to the most recent report from Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger, Tah may have been acquired by Spurs for a discount this summer.

The center back’s contract with Leverkusen reportedly had a €20 million (£17.1 million) release clause, but the clause is now alleged to have expired.

With interested teams now needing to negotiate a contract with the Bundesliga team, Tah‘s move from BayArena this summer does not appear to be completely out of the question.

Simon Rolfes, the managing director of Leverkusen, is reported in the article as saying, “We could negotiate freely,” in response to a question on the expiration of the release clause.

When Tottenham‘s scouts traveled to Germany to oversee Tah, it’s probable that Tapsoba caught their eye.

Spurs would have made a play for the 27-year-old when the release clause was still in effect, though, if they had been seriously interested in him.
