Tottenham is humiliating Chelsea for £35 million, but Manchester United may have the final say

Chelsea is eager to spend money in January, but they appear to be missing out on one of their key targets.

Chelsea‘s situation appears to be worse as the January transfer window approaches. The Blues have had a rocky start to the season, and it now appears that they may miss out on signing Nice star Jean-Clair Todibo.

Mauricio Pochettino‘s side has won just six of their first 17 Premier League games, leaving them in 10th place in the table and in need of major investment if they are to fulfil their aim of achieving European football.

Chelsea is counting on a number of players returning from injuries to hit the ground running, including Christopher Nkunku, as well as the January transfer window. Todd Boehly’s buying frenzy is set to continue next month, with reinforcements needed in all areas.

With Trevoh Chalobah leaving and Thiago Silva nearing the end of his career, the Blues are looking for a new long-term centre-back, and sources suggest that France international Todibo is a strong contender. They aren’t the only ones that admire the 23-year-old.

Tottenham have initiated talks with Nice to sign Todibo in January, according to Fabrizio Romano, and have made contact with his entourage.

Spurs are anxious for at least one new centre-back and have nominated the ex-Barcelona player, who is valued at £35 million, as one of their priorities, believing that his desire to play out from the back will match Ange Postecoglou’s demands.

Chelsea may be tempted to hijack the deal while negotiations are still in the early stages, but they are dealing with more than just Spurs. Manchester United have had the central defender on their radar since the start of the summer transfer season, and their path to clinching his signature might get much easier in the coming weeks.

Nice owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is awaiting a 25% interest in the Red Devils, and his presence at both clubs would play a significant role in allowing Todibo to swap between his two clubs. However, the INEOS businessman must consider the negative impact on his French team, which is now second in Ligue 1 and appears to be the most likely contender to challenge Paris Saint-Germain for the title.
