Giovani Lo Celso has experienced another unusual season at Tottenham.

Lo Celso’s stay at Tottenham has been everything but smooth. The Argentine has spent a significant amount of time on loan as well as on the bench.

However, Lo Celso remained at Tottenham this season, and while he had some solid moments for the north London club where he looked quality, he was mostly benched.

Lo Celso, who is entering the final year of his contract, is expected to leave Spurs this summer after spending much of his time on the bench.

However, appearing on The Spurs Chat Podcast, Josh Hughes revealed that the most recent he’s heard on Lo Celso is that Tottenham are looking to offer him a new deal.

Hughes discussed what he had heard about Lo Celso.

“I don’t know since the last I heard, Spurs were trying to offer him a new deal, which is completely perplexing given his lack of playing time. “I can’t recall a time this season when he was bad on the pitch,” Hughes remarked.

Lo Celso is a terrific player, but it’s difficult to see why he deserves a new contract at this moment.

He’s making a lot of money and is only a periphery player; everything leads to his cashing in this summer and making some money back.

Lo Celso is clearly capable of playing a role at Tottenham, but based on last season, he is unlikely to be a vital cog in Ange Postecoglou’s future plans, so a new contract does not appear to make much sense.
It remains to be seen whether the midfielder receives a new contract, but as Hughes points out, this appears to be an unusual development.
