Crysencio Summerville asked Pascal Struijk if he could take the penalty in Leeds United’s 1-0 loss to Stoke City tonight.
According to Leeds Live writer Beren Cross, who gave information about Summerville’s encounter with Struijk prior to Patrick Bamford’s miss from the spot.
Bamford declared soon after the penalty was awarded that he would take it in search of his first goal of the season.
With the score at 0-0, Bamford blasted his penalty miles over the crossbar, costing Leeds the game, as Stoke went ahead thanks to a Struijk own goal.
Summerville requested that Struijk take the pen.
Bamford has now missed his past three penalty kicks for Leeds, and two have cost the squad in key situations.
His first miss came just over a year ago against Arsenal. Leeds would have most certainly earned a point if he had scored, but instead fell to a 1-0 defeat.
Bamford then missed a vital penalty against Newcastle United in May, which would have put Leeds 2-0 ahead in a crucial maths calculation in their fight to avoid relegation. The score was 2-2 at the end of the game.
