According to Times reporter Tom Allnutt, while Ange Postecoglou does not get too close to his players, he conducts quite differently than his predecessor, Antonio Conte.
Tottenham’s records have been particularly dismal in recent months, and the Lilywhites could finish behind Chelsea if they lose to Sheffield United in the season’s last game.
Some believe Postecoglou is now cracking under pressure, as the Australian made headlines following Tottenham’s loss to Manchester City on Tuesday.
The 58-year-old argued that the days preceding up to the game had demonstrated that the club’s foundations, both inside and outside, are ‘fragile’ (Football.London).
While the Tottenham manager failed to explain what he meant, many Spurs fans were offended by his statement, accusing him of not knowing what the rivalry with Arsenal means to them.
Postecoglou is not someone who makes friends with Spurs players.
Some may argue that Postecoglou’s rants are comparable to those created by Conte last season, but Allnutt emphasised that the two have little in common.
The journalist told The Tottenham Way Podcast: “He supposedly doesn’t talk to players one-on-one very much. There is no cosiness; when Postecoglou took over, people assumed he was a cuddly 60-year-old Australian, but this is not the case.
“It’s nothing like that, when people draw comparisons with the Conte rant, it’s not come full circle because the style of play is completely different and the way he is around the training ground is completely different, you speak to people and he’s nothing like Conte in that way.”

The main similarity between Ange and Conte is that both have complete conviction in their own system and style of doing things, and both have demonstrated a vicious streak.
However, they are clearly quite different not only in their footballing ideals, but also in accepting responsibility for defeats, with Ange being much more willing to accept blame, whilst his predecessor insulated himself from criticism by throwing the players under the bus.
