Latest Nottingham Forest news as Reds await verdict after Profitability and Sustainability guidelines charge, Nottingham Forest may reportedly have to wait a few more days to determine any potential punishment for breaching financial guidelines.
The Reds were charged with violating the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) in January. They appeared before an independent commission on Thursday and Friday as they opened their defence against that charge.
The Premier League rules say that the commission “must provide its decision” within one week of the hearing’s conclusion. However, according to The Athletic, a ruling is not expected until Monday.
Financial regulations state Premier League clubs are only allowed to make a maximum loss of £105 million across a rolling three-year period, or £35m each season.
For promoted teams, this is lowered, thus the Reds have been limited to losses of £61 million over the last three seasons – £13 million for the two seasons in the Championship before promotion, plus £35 million last year. The extent to which the club has broken the limit is unknown.
Forest face relegation rivals Luton Town in a crucial match on Saturday at Kenilworth Road. Prior to the match, head coach Nuno Espirito Santo stated that he would want clarity regarding any potential points deduction as soon as possible.
“No, we are not nervous,” he declared during his pre-match press conference on Thursday, when questioned about the club’s fate. “We’ve been waiting since we learned that there would be a hearing. Let’s wait and see. We don’t know when it will happen. The club will take care of this. Our football team is solely focused on the pitch and cannot predict when it will arrive. I believe the sooner the better.”
Forest are now one spot and three points clear of the 18th-placed Hatters in the league. Nuno’s squad has ten games left to defend their top-flight status.
