A new report about Rangers’ interest in an exit-linked Leeds ace has emerged

Rangers’ January transfer window updates: An update on the alleged interest in Leeds United’s forward Joe Gelhardt

Rangers‘ reported interest in Leeds United attacker Joe Gelhardt may be exaggerated, according to The Fourth Official, who claimed they have “not heard anything” to back it up.

On January 8, the Scottish football-focused outlet tweeted that they had received no evidence that the Light Blues were interested in the 21-year-old Elland Road player.

The Daily Mail reported earlier that day that Rangers and Old Firm rivals Celtic were interested in the Whites player, who is fighting for playing time under Daniel Farke.

On the other hand, T4O’s report stated: “For those asking, not heard anything about Rangers being interested in Joe Gelhardt.”

Tough options.

On talent alone, Philippe Clement would have a solid cause to be interested in the Leeds United forward.

However, because he is not a specialist number nine, he would not be the best candidate to lead the line ahead of Cyriel Dessers, and he is unlikely to be available on loan [Alan Nixon, 8 January].

He isn’t getting much of a look at Leeds right now, so if they were willing to cover a significant portion of his wages, Rangers might be able to work something out while also pursuing other targets.

The two sides completed business on Glen Kamara‘s transfer to the English Championship in the summer, thus lines of communication have been created, even if Michael Beale has since followed him south.

Gelhardt‘s progress has stopped since an exhilarating breakthrough at Elland Road two seasons ago, and a half-season at Ibrox under Clement could be a fantastic opportunity for him to get back on track.

However, there are now contradicting reports about the club’s interest in him, so whether an offer is made or not remains to be seen.
