A player who excelled at Nottingham Forest the previous season could now be signed by Newcastle for £200,000 a week.

After helping Nottingham Forest finish in the Premier League the previous year, Keylor Navas is now free to sign with Newcastle. The goalie is back at PSG right now, but he is no longer a member of the Ligue 1 team.

The seasoned goalie was a fantastic addition to the Forest squad in the latter part of 2022–2023. In his 17 Reds appearances, he managed to maintain two clean sheets as the team clinched their Premier League survival.

Navas has three Champions League victories under his belt and a wealth of experience. He has also played for a Spanish team that has won a championship and won Ligue 1 twice.

Incredibly, Forest managed to bring Navas to the City Ground. When it was revealed that Dean Henderson would miss the rest of the season, the club had to move quickly.

Newcastle is in for Navas.

Now, the 34-year-old player might find himself on Newcastle’s shortlist. Nick Pope’s dislocated shoulder sidelined him for several months, leaving them in limbo.

Navas is reportedly on Newcastle’s radar following his loan stint with Forest during the 2022–2023 season as they look to add a goalkeeper in January, as reported by The Mirror.

Navas will probably seize the opportunity to play in the Premier League once more. He is expected to recover from a minor injury that he is now nursing in order to play soon.

Navas signing is never an easy task. Newcastle needs to be mindful that the Costa Rican international makes approximately £200,000 per week at PSG, and they will be demanding a substantial portion of that salary.

Forest has the right not to sign Navas long-term.

It’s reasonable to argue that Navas would have been a better stopper for Forest than the two they have now. This season, Odysseas Vlachodimos and Matt Turner have both experienced unsettling situations.

However, Forest was unable to defend Navas given his advanced age and large salary. It wouldn’t have gone over well if his appearance had meant yet another temporary solution.

Navas’s accomplishments at Forest will live on in our memories forever. He played a crucial role in the last stretch as the Reds managed to stay in the Premier League.
