Ross Wilson, the City Ground’s Director of Football, has already turned his attention to improving Nuno Espirito Santo’s offensive options after strengthening the defence with the addition of Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina.

So, who may now return to Nottingham Forest? Let us have a look.

According to the Nigerian news agency, Nottingham Forest attempted to sign the striker in January, giving Ajax €15 million (£12.6 million), but negotiations broke down as the Dutch club demanded €17 million (£14.3 million).

However, it appears that a deal is now in the works.

According to Soccer News, Ajax is under pressure to sell players this summer and could be vulnerable if Nottingham Forest makes another approach. Akpom previously spent seven games on loan at Nottingham Forest from Arsenal in 2015, failing to score or assist once before going to Hull City on another loan agreement.

A cheap transaction could lead to creative business.

Soccer News has no indication of Ajax’s asking price, but if Nottingham Forest resubmits their £12.6 million bid from January and the Eredivisie side accepts, it could be a good deal.

Akpom, who Nottingham Forest also considered signing in 2021, scored 15 goals in 36 appearances last season after previously scoring 29 goals in 42 appearances for Middlesbrough in 2022/23. The 28-year-old certainly knows where the net is, and his presence at the City Ground may inspire Taiwo Awoniyi and Chris Wood to boost up their game, given the pair currently has little competition.

Keep a watch on this issue as Nottingham Forest rekindle their interest in Akpom.
