Nottingham Forest’s results have plummeted in recent weeks, and Steve Cooper’s job is now in jeopardy, with Nuno Espirito Santo being considered as a successor.
Steve Cooper‘s future as manager of Nottingham Forest appears to be in doubt, with Nuno Espirito Santo set up as his replacement.
Cooper understood that the Tottenham game on Friday might be defining for him, and a 2-0 defeat, coming nine days after a 5-0 thrashing at Fulham, could be the final straw for the City Ground administration.
The Welshman was instrumental in reintroducing Forest to the Premier League after more than two decades away, and he then guaranteed their place in the top tier last season. However, they have lost six of their previous eight games and have fallen down the standings, with a change likely on the way, according to sources.
Before settling on Cooper, the Forest owner demonstrated a penchant for pulling the trigger. The ex-Swansea manager has been with the club for well over a decade, but Nuno could be ready to return for a third season in the Premier League, with Forest now sitting in 17th place.
The Portuguese manager was a success at Wolves before moving on to Tottenham, where he lasted only ten games before being fired. He was fired last month by Saudi club Al-Ittihad, where he coached the likes of Karim Benzema and had a 64% victory percentage.
Cooper was left to lament goalkeeper Matt Turner’s blunders on Friday, which allowed Tottenham to score, but the Forest manager emphasised his passion for the role.
“It is not something that should happen at this level,” he remarked of his shot. We must own what we can do better – sometimes individually, sometimes collectively. We’ll look at it over the weekend. There are genuine quality times where we fall short.
