According to an ESPN pundit, many people have forgotten how brilliant Tottenham’s £21.5 million player is

As he praised Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, Janusz Michallik said that many people had forgotten about him while he was on the bench.

Rodrigo Bentancur gave Tottenham a huge boost ahead of their weekend meeting with Bournemouth. The Uruguayan has been out since late November after becoming the victim of a vicious challenge from Matty Cash.

Bentancur was expected to remain unavailable until mid-February. But he made a surprising appearance against Bournemouth on Sunday.

Many people have forgotten how talented Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is. Speaking to ESPN, Janusz Michallik feels that many people are set to be reminded of Bentancur’s importance to Tottenham following his recent return.

“Recently, look at Richarlison. Take a look at what he does. Kulusevski, you are great. Take a look at what he’s done to Lo Celso. “I mean, I completely forgot about Lo Celso a few weeks ago,” he admitted.

“You know my feelings regarding Bentancur. Many English fans have forgotten who he is and how he plays, but he is great.”

The Uruguayan might be crucial in the second half of the season.

Bentancur appeared in only 10 games for Tottenham in 2023. In February, he suffered a major injury against Leicester. And, of course, his comeback from that injury was cut short by the loss to Aston Villa.

Last season, the £21.5 million midfielder was one of Tottenham’s lone bright spots. Despite not appearing after February, Bentancur finished as Tottenham’s third highest Premier League goalscorer.

And, given that he had two significant layoffs in the previous 12 months, it’s likely that some fans had forgotten about Bentancur.

Given how much time he has spent away from the team, Ange Postecoglou will be wary of demanding too much of the 26-year-old too soon.

However, if Tottenham can bring Bentancur back to his best in the near future, they will have a fantastic player on their team who can make a huge effect in the second half of the season.
