According to Football Insider, there is a serious likelihood that Eric Dier will leave Tottenham this summer.
On Sunday (13 August), the 29-year-old was left out of the squad that drew 2-2 away at Brentford in the first game of the 2023-24 season.
Ange Postecoglou, interviewed by the BBC after the game, declared Dier is still “part of this team” and “available for selection” despite his withdrawal.
The player is reported to be content at Tottenham, where he joined from Sporting CP nine years ago.
However, a reliable source has told Football Insider that he may be open to leaving north London because he has less than a year left on his deal.
Due to Dier‘s contract issue, clubs have been informed to a possible cut-price deal.
Hugo Lloris, Tanguy Ndombele, Japhet Tanganga, Djed Spence, and Sergio Reguilon were among those left out of the matchday squad on Sunday.
Last season, Dier made 42 appearances in all competitions and was a favourite of former manager Antonio Conte.
He only played as a centre-back, despite having playing at centre midfield and right-back for Spurs.
The England star, who is said to earn £85,000 per week, signed his most recent contract extension in 2020.
Dier has appeared 361 times for Spurs in all competitions but has yet to win a trophy with the Lilywhites.
Micky van de Ven has joined from Wolfsburg to give him more competition at centre-back, while Postecoglou chose controversial defender Davinson Sanchez ahead of him for the draw at Brentford.
Dier, a former Everton youth player, might consider a pre-contract move with international clubs in January.
