Following Bournemouth’s Saturday 9-0 loss to Liverpool, Scott Parker was let go.

Scott Parker, the manager of Bournemouth, was let go after the team’s Saturday afternoon 9-0 loss to Liverpool.

After leaving Fulham, Parker was hired as the Cherries’ manager. He led the team to automatic promotion to the Premier League, finishing just two points behind his prolific former team.

Despite defeating Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa on the opening day, his team has since suffered losses to Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool.

“I would like to record my gratitude to Scott and his team for their efforts during their time with us,” the club’s owner said in a statement. Under his direction, our return to the Premier League last season will go down as one of our most successful seasons ever.

However, “we must be aligned in our strategy to run the club sustainably if we are to continue progressing as a team and as a Club as a whole. We also need to respect and believe in one another. This is the approach that has helped this club in recent years achieve such success, and we won’t change it.

 

The club’s 4-0 loss at Anfield, where goals from Roberto Firmino, Luis Diaz, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harvey Elliott, Fabio Carvalho, and an own goal by Chris Mepham reduced the Cherries’ goal differential to -14, was described by the club’s former Tottenham and England midfielder as “shell-shocking.”

Parker told reporters after the game on Saturday, “It goes without saying that it is a truly humbling experience, and one that was pretty shell-shocking in terms of the outcome.

The level of competition we are dealing with is not surprising to me, and the quality is simply much higher than what we currently have. It’s not an excuse, though, because the set-play goals in that game were entirely our fault.

“Given where we came from and what we have, we are simply underequipped at this level, so I feel bad for the fans and the players. It has been difficult.

The Cherries’ game against Wolves will be supervised by former Liverpool U21s coach Gary O’Neil on Wednesday night.
