Following yet another setback in that position at Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day, Tottenham is apparently one of 11 clubs expressing interest in buying a top PSG central defender.
With Yves Bissouma and Archie Gray as the core of Spurs’ defense, the Romanian defender Radu Dragusin was the most recent center back to leave the field due to an ankle injury at The City Ground.
Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham already had Christian Romero and Micky van de Ven, so another injury in the back line was the last thing they needed, but it seems like that’s how things are going for the struggling north London team right now.
Spurs have lost four of their last five games, dropping them to 11th place in the standings after 18 games. If Brentford wins against Brighton on Friday, Spurs might fall even farther in the standings, which has been a terrible season thus far.
Even before Dragusin‘s injury, Postecoglou was rumored to be looking for another central defense addition in January. According to a recent source, they are one of 11 teams vying for Milan Skriniar, a star for Paris Saint-Germain.
Tottenham has had their eye on the 29-year-old for a number of years, especially under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte. According to CaughtOffside, the French powerhouses are open to hearing offers for the Slovakian of about €35 million (£29 million or $36 million).
During his playing days with Inter Milan, when he made 246 appearances at the San Siro and won five major trophies, including the Serie A title in 2021, Skriniar established a reputation as one of Europe’s fiercest defenders.
Skriniar, however, has been irritated by his lack of playing time in the French capital since moving to the Parc des Princes as a free agent in July 2023. PSG is therefore prepared to profit on the unresolved Skriniar as the January transfer window approaches.
According to the report, Newcastle, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, AS Roma, Napoli, and Cristiano Ronaldo‘s Al-Nassr are all keeping an eye on the seasoned center-back, who has just over three years left on his contract at the Parc des Princes. Skriniar‘s pursuit is intensifying as Tottenham gets Davies boost Luis Enrique has only given Skriniar five appearances in Ligue 1 this season, but the player is being pursued by a large number of teams.
However, Ben Godfrey, a former Everton player, is also rumored to be on Tottenham’s radar ahead of a possible raid in the new year, making Skriniar not the only center-back the club is after.
After the Forest loss, Postecoglou added that Dragusin‘s injury might not be too bad, stating: “He was a bit sore.” We’ll just have to wait and see because he said he couldn’t continue due to an ankle injury.
“We are working hard behind the scenes, but we have a game on Sunday and focus on that first,” the Australian said when asked about the team’s ambitions for the January transfer window in general. Next, we’ll examine January.
After recovering from a hamstring injury, Ben Davies just resumed training, and Postecoglou stated that although Boxing Day was too risky for the Welshman, he should be ready for this weekend.
