‘Always alert’: Postecoglou on Tottenham’s remaining transfer window ambitions

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has spoken to the press about the January transfer window, stating that he is pleased with the club’s progress thus far, but that they are prepared to make additional transfers if necessary.

Tottenham have already bought two players to strengthen the areas of Ange Postecoglou‘s team that required it the most in an unusually quick and clinical January transfer window.

Timo Werner joined Tottenham on loan from RB Leipzig until the end of the season, providing firepower to the team’s assault.

Shortly after, 21-year-old defender Radu Dragusin joined on a permanent basis from Genoa, providing much-needed cover and competition in the heart of defence.

Tottenham have also offloaded a number of marginal players this month, although it is believed that the club is looking to sign more players. According to The Independent, Tottenham will look to sign a central midfielder before the end of the transfer window.

The North London club is also interested in signing Antonio Nusa, with a €30 million (£25.7 million) deal being discussed (The Athletic).

What happens next for Spurs in the January transfer window?

So, the final week of the transfer window appears to be a busy one for Spurs, but what does Ange Postecoglou think? In his most recent news conference (via Football.London), he was asked about the club’s strategy and business practices.

He said: “In terms of the rest of the transfer window, I was extremely pleased that the basic objectives we had in mind, which were someone in at centre-half and someone in the forward positions, were met rather quickly.

“And it’s not simply that we did them early; they’re two guys who have benefited greatly from spending 10 days in the building with us, training, adjusting, and so on. Timo and Radu are both in a great position to assist us move forward.

“As for what happens next, as I mentioned before, we’re always on the lookout for ways to better the squad. And if there are any outgoings, we are prepared for them, depending on the circumstances.

“I think we’re in a decent place where the anxiety going into it and thinking where did we really need to help the squad, especially in this period, I think we’re in a good place now.”

I believe we have made a lot of progress this month, and anything else would be a huge bonus at this point. I expect a few more players to leave, and perhaps the Nusa deal will be completed. A central midfield upgrade would be fantastic, but I am not holding my breath.
