According to reports, former Leeds United youth player Stuart McKinstry is on his way to Scottish club Queen’s Park. McKinstry has been a free agent since being released by the Whites in the summer, and he has been courted by a number of lower division EFL clubs.

Both Gillingham and Wrexham have been associated with the 21-year-old in recent months, but he has decided that a return to Scotland is the best move for him at this stage in his career, according to the Daily Record. As a result, the article indicates that Queen’s Park won the race for him after a long time of interest.

McKinstry spent last season on loan at his boyhood club Motherwell, where he had a breakthrough season at senior level and made his way into the Scotland Under-21 squad. He appeared in 20 league games for the Scottish Premiership team, scoring four goals, including one against Rangers.

His success north of the border, however, was insufficient to persuade Leeds that he deserved a new contract at Elland Road, and he was released in the summer. McKinstry made two senior first-team appearances for Leeds in 2021, both under Marcelo Bielsa.

The Scot made his Whites debut against Fulham in the Carabao Cup before coming off the bench against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. McKinstry will now attempt to advance his career with Queen’s Park, who finished third in the Scottish Championship last season and are presently just three points off of the play-off places despite losing their last five games in a row.

According to the Record, McKinstry is a fan of Robin Veldman‘s style of football, and the club has made significant progress since their quick rise through the Scottish tiers.
