Newcastle defeated Tottenham for the second year in a row at St. James’ Park.
After defeating Spurs 6-1 at home in April, Newcastle thrashed Ange Postecoglou‘s side 4-0, jeopardising the visitors’ chances of finishing in the top four. Alexander Isak scored twice, bringing his season total to 17 in the league and 21 overall, just like last year.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou admitted his squad struggled to control the game in a 4-0 defeat to Newcastle at St James’ Park.
Anthony Gordon made it 2-0 just 95 seconds after Isak opened the scoring, and he added two assists.
“Playing football is really fun at the moment, especially when we have days like this,” Isak stated in a statement.
Micky van de Ven, Tottenham‘s defender, did not have a good day. The centre defender was partially at blame for the first two goals, as he slipped twice and allowed Isak and Gordon to get by him inside the area.
Tottenham‘s massive loss placed them behind Aston Villa into fifth place, trailing on goal difference.
Newcastle were sixth, ten points behind Villa and Tottenham.

Penalty decisions help United.
Manchester United drew 2-2 at Bournemouth thanks to two penalty rulings, but their chances of qualifying for the Champions League appear to be slipping away.
Tottenham‘s loss offered United a chance to close the deficit, but Erik ten Hag’s club remained 10 points behind fourth place with six games remaining, having gone four league games without a win.
“We know when you come into the final stage of the season, that is not enough,” Ten Hag went on to say. “But the truth is, today we didn’t deserve more.”
Indeed, this was another performance that demonstrated that United was still a long way from challenging Europe’s best.
Only a cheap penalty in the 65th minute allowed Bruno Fernandes to equalise with his second goal of the match. Referee Tony Harrington indicated to the location where a deflected shot touched Adam Smith’s arm in the area.

Forest drew 2-2 with Wolves, despite Morgan Gibbs-White scoring against his previous club off a corner from U.S. international Gio Reyna, who made his first start for the club. Wolves’ Matheus Cunha scored twice, including an equalising goal in the 62nd minute.
A error by goalkeeper Aro Muric lost Burnley a 1-1 draw with Brighton. Josh Brownhill took advantage of a sloppy back ball by Carlos Baleba in the 74th minute to give Burnley the lead, but Muric subsequently allowed an easy pass from Sander Berge slide under his foot.
