Another alarming update has come from north London.
Following his team’s first league loss of the year on Monday, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou now has to deal with more concerning injury news.
Spurs full list of absentees
In the Premier League, the Lilywhites lost to Chelsea 4-1 at home. It was an entertaining match for the neutral spectator, but Postecoglou might want to forget about it quickly. While Spurs were reduced to nine men in the second half, they were commended for their audacity in playing a high line. These were just a few of the game’s many positives.
Some important players did, however, also leave the field during the game. More worryingly, Mauricio Pochettino‘s team forced the removal of James Maddison and Micky van de Ven due to injuries. Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were given red cards.
Postecoglou said after the game that Maddison had taken a knock to the ankle, but van de Ven’s injury appeared to be much more “serious” as he hobbled off the grass while clutching his hamstring.
“It’s too early but looking at Micky you’re thinking it’s a pretty significant one so you’d assume he’ll be out for a little while.” Regarding Maddison and van de Ven, Postecoglou stated.
“Madders got a knock on the ankle and we’ll just have to assess him and see how it is.”
Spurs‘ early-season success has been largely attributed to the two, with Postecoglou having the best start of any new manager in Premier League history.
On the list of absentees are Maddison, van de Ven, Romero, Udogie, Ivan Perisic, Manor Solomon, Ryan Sessegnon, Alfie Whiteman, and Ben Davies. According to reports from the past 24 hours, Postecoglou will now be without a player for the foreseeable future.
Richardson is scheduled for surgery.
In fact, forward Richarlison has disclosed that he will undergo surgery to address a chronic problem with his pubic bone. Fabrizio Romano provided the latest information on this. As a result, it looks like the Brazil international will miss some time due to injury, with Postecoglou’s problems currently getting worse at N17.
“It’s not been an easy few months for me… I’ve experienced health issues,” Richarlison stated on Tuesday.
“I’ve already discussed my upcoming pubic surgery with the doctors. It seems like it’s time to relax.
Richarlison has been a constant for Spurs this season despite occasional criticism, starting seven league games and participating in ten total. It’s unclear if the 26-year-old’s pubic bone problem is the reason he didn’t play in their match against Chelsea, but he was on the bench. Postecoglou described Richarlison as a “fantastic” player following his game-winning goal and assist in a thrilling 2-1 victory over Sheffield United in September.
In regards to Richarlison, Postecoglou said to Match of the Day, “He’s a fantastic footballer.”
Like so many of us, he has so much to give, and that can lessen the weight he’s carrying in other areas of his life. I’m very happy for him since I felt he performed admirably. He’s always dangerous in the air, so it was clear that we were trying to score and get some balls in the box.
