Ange Postecoglou breaks his silence on Johan Lange’s employment amid a January transfer claim from Tottenham.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou will work closely with new technical director Johan Lange throughout the upcoming transfer window.

Ange Postecoglou has weighed in on Tottenham Hotspur‘s decision to hire Johan Lange as their new technical director. The club revealed earlier this month that the former Aston Villa manager would begin his new post in north London on November 1, 2023, where he will be responsible for “recruitment, analytics, and talent identification across our senior and academy teams.”

Lange’s hiring comes after chief football officer Scott Munn began his new post at the club in recent weeks after arriving from City Football Group China. His arrival comes following the exits of Fabio Paratici and, as football.london revealed, chief scout Leonardo Gabbanini in 2023.

Paratici departed the Lilywhites earlier this year after being barred from ‘any football-related activity’ by FIFA, but it is understood he has continued in a consultancy capacity, which is now likely to change. While Paratic was a far more visible character, Gabbanini’s departure came as a surprise as he had worked closely with Postecoglou on a number of agreements throughout the summer.

Nonetheless, Postecoglou appears to have embraced the hiring, providing his assessment on the club’s decision and the task ahead, while referring to the January transfer market. “I’ve had a couple of good chats with Johan now since he’s been appointed,” Postecoglou said to reporters on Friday. “I think it’s fair to say it was a position we needed to fill, and with all big football clubs, they become such an important part of the function knowing that for the most part, there aren’t too many hidden gems out there with recruitment these days.”

“Everyone knows what’s out there, and having people who are really adept and qualified in finding the ones who will be a good fit for us is critical.” That is Johan’s assignment, and I eagerly await his arrival. Obviously, the January window is not far away, so I am sure he will be eager to participate as well.”
