Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has stated that he believes Pape Matar Sarr will be able to recover from injury before the end of the week.
After yesterday’s 3-3 draw at Manchester City, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino provided an update on Pape Matar Sarr‘s fitness to beIN SPORTS.
After suffering an injury during the international break, the 21-year-old has missed Tottenham‘s last two Premier League games.
Sarr missed training just two days before the Aston Villa defeat and was also left out of Ange Postecoglou‘s squad for yesterday’s trip to Manchester.
The Senegalese midfielder has been a standout for Tottenham this season, and his injury has come at the worst possible time for Postecoglou.
However, the Australian coach is optimistic that the kid will be able to return to play by the end of this week.
Sarr could return this week according to Postecoglou.
Postecoglou spoke to beIN SPORTS about Sarr’s fitness and stated he’s pleased to get Richarlison back.
“It was good to get Richy some time today,” he went on to say. “Hopefully, Pape Sarr will be back by the end of the week.”
“The rest are all on long-term contracts and won’t be back until January.”
The Spurs manager was then asked if the rest of his squad had survived the thrilling 90 minutes of action at City.
“Yeah, hopefully all okay and a clean bill of health,” he said.
Richarlison returned to the team yesterday after undergoing groyne surgery last month, according to Postecoglou.
He is still missing crucial players such as Micky van de Ven and James Maddison, but Cristian Romero will return from suspension for the game against West Ham on Thursday.
Spurs‘ fortunes are suddenly brightening after such a rough spell owing to injuries and bans.
Postecoglou‘s list of absent players will be significantly lower if Sarr recovers by the end of this week.
The ‘unbelievable’ midfielder dazzled early in the season, but he will face fight to reclaim his starting spot.
Indeed, Yves Bissouma made his comeback to City action yesterday, while Giovani Lo Celso has struck the eye in midfield, scoring two goals in his previous two outings.
In the midst of the park, Dejan Kulusevski has also impressed. But it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Swede shift back out wide to bring Sarr back into midfield.
