Ange Postecoglou delivers a transfer update; Spurs have seven days left

With only one week remaining in the transfer window, Tottenham’s chances of contributing to the team’s success in the second half of the season are fading.

Ange Postecogou has provided an update on the present situation of the club’s transfer operations, while more Spurs players suffer injury.

Tottenham loses again due to weariness and injuries.

By now, everyone has probably had enough of the injury and tiredness hyperbole. People choose a different story. Alternatively, they believe that a different tactical strategy will make the current set of players less weary and more capable of winning. Unfortunately, it is just not the case.

Tottenham’s starting lineup against Leicester included nine players from the XI that played the majority of the Europa League encounter away to Hoffenheim three days earlier.

James Maddison became unavailable on short notice. Yves Bissouma was named on the bench but was deemed unfit to play. Pape Matar Sarr was not fit to play but was nonetheless used. Richarlison had to be removed in order to prevent him from harming himself again.

Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski acted like ghosts of themselves. A thin sliver of their actual selves could be seen on times, but they struggled to compete physically and committed frequent possession blunders.

It was yet another encounter that had to be played in the absence of transfer window reinforcements. A different outcome was expected.

Postecoglou provides Spurs transfer update.

With only 7 days left for the club to finalize any prospective moves, Postecoglou was asked whether this was a crucial week for the club and if any new acquisitions were imminent.

Postecoglou stated (BBCSport 26/01/25 16:25): “Not that I’m aware of, but the club is working hard to remedy that.”

When discussing the transfer window further, Postecoglou added (FootballLondon): “I’ve maintained all along that the players need support, and I’ve also said that the club is working hard in that area to try to ease some of those problems, because Pape Sarr shouldn’t have played today. He clearly wasn’t fit.

“The guys are going out there and giving everything they have because we can’t cancel games. We have another game in three days that these players must show up for.

“The injury situation will improve, and I am convinced they will aid us. Even bringing in one more player in the short term will give us a chance to get through the last 10 days, two weeks of what has been a really difficult slog for this bunch of players.”

More can be expected from Postecoglou, but January’s matchups were the boards to influence.

While the lack of depth and accurate squad profiles can be traced back to the summer window, it is realistic to expect Ange Postecoglou to have handled the squad better from August to December.

However, after the status of the team became known, with Romero, Van de Ven, and Vicario all missing, it was clear that the board needed to move as soon as possible to assist in January.

The signing of Antonin Kinsky was useful, but with no outfield reinforcements, the Spurs team has been lacking. Arguably, Spurs have now dropped Premier League points that they could have won with board support.
