Despite his goal against Fulham, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has told forward Richarlison to improve his overall performance.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has reportedly granted his OK for the club to pursue Barcelona striker Ansu Fati in order to bolster his attacking options.
Richarlison, who has struggled in front of goal, scored against Fulham in the Carabao Cup last night, but it was not enough to prevent Spurs from being ousted in the first round.
The Brazil number nine has failed to fill the void created by Harry Kane‘s transfer to Bayern Munich after a torrid season in north London, when he scored just one league goal.
Ansu Fati has been offered to a number of Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, but it is Spurs who are looking for another attacking option.
Spurs are attempting to rebuild their identity after Mauricio Pochettino left in 2019, and Postecoglou, who was visibly frustrated that his team failed to progress in the Carabao Cup, confessed he expected Richarlison to improve despite his goal.
“I understand why other people look at that,” he said, “but for me, it’s about contributing to our football and how we play.”
“I thought we gave the ball away a little too much tonight, not just him, but a few players in that boat.” It’s a crucial aspect of our game, and it’s something I want Richy to work on.
“I believe the goals will come.” Our strikers and attacking players will have chances to score. At this point, our all-around game is much more essential.”
The Lilywhites will attempt to put Fulham‘s disappointment behind them as they travel to Burnley for their Premier League match this weekend.
