Ange Postecoglou was taken aback by Tottenham’s £25 million player’s performance against Brentford today.

Ange Postecoglou praised Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma following his performance against Brentford today.

Spurs were forced to settle for a point after an exciting 90 minutes of action at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Tottenham took the lead within the first 15 minutes of the game when Cristian Romero headed past Mark Flekken following a stunning free-kick from James Maddison.

After a lengthy VAR review, Postecoglou‘s men were swiftly pegged back as newly-appointed captain Heung-Min Son was adjudged to have fouled Mathias Jensen.

Bryan Mbeumo scored from the penalty spot, and Yoan Wissa put Brentford ahead 10 minutes later when his effort deflected off Micky van de Ven and past Guglielmo Vicario.

Tottenham equalised just before halftime thanks to an unlikely source: Emerson Royal, who rifled in from close range.

Spurs were unable to find a winner in the second half, but there were several significant positives on the day, namely Yves Bissouma‘s performance in the middle of the field.

Postecoglou on Bissouma

Postecoglou singled out Bissouma for praise following an outstanding performance today, speaking to BBC Sport after the game.

Bissouma has been outstanding throughout the pre-season and was superb today,” he remarked. “We had a lot of the ball, and it was critical that we kept things moving.”

“Our ball progression was really good; we just lacked a cutting edge.” This is the point at where we are. We’re trying to modify the way the squad plays, and they’re learning a lot.

“It’s either an impediment or an opportunity for you.” Harry Kane has been a huge figure for this club for a long time and will remain so whether he is present or not.

“We wanted to go out and give our fans hope and faith in the team.” That’s what I thought they did today.”

Bissouma struggled in his first season with Spurs after joining from Brighton for £25 million.

The Mali international never looked to fit into Antonio Conte‘s system, but he appears to be a good fit for Postecoglou.

Today, he dominated the Tottenham midfield and looked composed on the ball, with many of Tottenham‘s attacks originating with him.
