Ange Postecoglou will give ‘outstanding’ Tottenham Hotspur academy ‘gifted’ players an opportunity to shine during pre-season

One opportunity for Junai Byfield, a youngster in the Tottenham Hotspur system, to train with the first team.

Tottenham Hotspur under-16 central defender Junai Byfield has reportedly been practicing with the first team this week, according to Lilywhite Rose on Instagram.

In his second season in North London, Ange Postecoglou is getting ready for the team’s pre-season trip. Many first-team players have rejoined the team, while some players are still away from the club, playing in the ongoing Copa America and Euro 2024.

The youthful Spurs players have a fantastic chance to impress Ange Postecoglou during the forthcoming pre-season tour thanks to their hectic international schedule. Although it is anticipated that academy players like Mikey Moore, Frankie Day, and Will Lankshear will be included in the first team group for the pre-season, Tottenham supporters will undoubtedly be excited to learn that Junai Byfield is practicing with the senior squad.

Byfield is still a season away from making his Spurs under-18 team debut, although he has been playing regularly for the under-18 team. The Standard reports that the youth is highly regarded at the academy and has already been called up by England youth sides. He is tall, strong in the air, and composed while playing the ball.

For Spurs supporters who may be unfamiliar with Byfield, Tottenham specialist and podcast host Lilywhite Rose John Wenham describes him as “an outstanding talent who will continue to play above his age level next season.”

Byfield has thrived for Spurs under-18s this season, and his efforts have not gone unnoticed, with Postecoglou elevating him to train with the senior team. The Australian tactician is looking for young players who can progress from the academy to the first squad in the coming years.

Given Byfield’s rise through the academy, it is not surprising that he will be given the opportunity to train under Postecoglou and his staff, especially since first-choice defenders such as Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Radu Dragusin will be competing in the Euro 2024 and Copa America and will not be returning to the club soon.
Spurs do not have much depth in central defence, so the young Englishman must make the most of his time with the senior side and earn invaluable experience. Even though he is still a few years away from making the first team, Byfield’s training with the first squad at such a young age demonstrates his ability and potential.
