Ange Postecoglou advised the Tottenham Hotspur squad to be good human beings during his first days at the North London club, according to James Maddison.
Postecoglou has had a great start to life in N17, going unbeaten in his first eight Premier League matches and winning six of them.
While Ange will be the first to downplay the significance of Spurs topping the table in October, the Lilywhites have delivered results away from Arsenal as well as at home against both Manchester United and Liverpool.
Whatever perspective you take, Tottenham have made significant improvement under the Australian, particularly when compared to the final weeks of Antonio Conte’s tenure.
Maddison has now spoken out about Postecoglou’s training technique, saying that he prefers intensive sessions that equate to performance on the pitch.
He also discussed how Postecoglou views his players as human beings as well as professional athletes.
“He has come in and had his way of playing and his methods,” Maddison told TalkSPORT.
“The way he wants us to train on a daily basis is contagious.” There is no such thing as a half-hearted effort.
“Every day and every training session is intense, hard and his way, but we’re reaping the benefits on the pitch on Saturday.”
“First and foremost, the gaffer is a good man. On one of his first days, he told us, “Be a decent human being, and we’ll get along fine.”
“That’s one of his morals, and you can tell he’s a good man by the way he carries himself and speaks to people.”
“He’s open, honest, and straight to the point.” He’s straightforward and doesn’t mess around. That’s really refreshing.
“You don’t want managers who send mixed messages and favour certain employees.”
“He’s a good, hardworking man, and that’s the foundation on which he builds his teams.” It’s contagious among the players.”
Postecoglou comes across well to fans, but it appears that he comes across much better to the players. For the first time in a long time, everyone from the top down is behind Tottenham Hotspur.
