Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou responded in three words to those who pleaded with him to be pragmatic in their match against Manchester City.
Due to the club’s injury issue, Postecoglou‘s team’s entire defensive unit was made up of fullbacks.
Many people thought Postecoglou‘s strategy and continual usage of a high defensive line would be ineffective against a City squad overflowing with offensive talent.
After the game, however, numerous pundits changed their tune and praised Postecoglou for sticking to his footballing beliefs, which did not surprise those who have followed his career.
During the press conference ahead of Tottenham’s game against West Ham, a journalist told Postecoglou that he had garnered a lot of praise for the way his team played against City.
However, Postecoglou pointed out that it was only “after the game” that he received plaudits for his approach.
West Ham manager David Moyes, who spoke glowingly about his opponent coach during his news conference, was one man who knew Postecoglou would be immovable in his tactical set-up for City.
Moyes is a big Celtic fan who saw Postecoglou annihilate the opposition during his two years in charge, so he’ll know exactly what he’s up against when the two London clubs meet on Friday morning (AEDT).
The Hammers manager had only great things to say about Postecoglou and was “surprised” that the English media did not predict the Australian to do as well as he is with Tottenham.
“He’s done remarkable,” stated Moyes.
“But I’m surprised no one else was surprised after what he did at Celtic, where the pressure was immense and he coped and dealt with it.”
“At the moment, Tottenham are as good as any team in the Premier League.”
