Leeds United have confirmed that centre-back Pascal Struijk has undergone surgery for an adductor injury that has kept him out of action since Boxing Day.
With eight games remaining in Leeds‘ pursuit for automatic promotion, the Whites don’t need an injury issue ahead of the big Easter weekend.
Pascal Struijk is out for the season – confirmed.
An adductor injury did not appear to be a huge issue for Leeds’ captain for the bulk of the season until to that time, but he has been sidelined since scoring in the 2-1 Boxing Day defeat to Preston.
Struijk will now return to Leeds in the summer, when preseason begins, to observe from the sidelines.
Archie Gray and Illan Meslier react to the Struijk hit.
Struijk used Instagram to react to the news of his season-ending surgery:
Among those who wished him well in the comments were teammates Archie Gray and Pascal Struijk:
Struijk is a major miss for Leeds, given our centre back depth.
Ethan Ampadu has done an excellent job of making Struijk’s absence look to be less of a loss, but it is still significant.
We have a midfielder playing out of position to cover for the final eight games of the season, and while he’s been invincible thus far, having little depth is risky.
If Ilia Gruev or Glen Kamara suffer a setback, Grey and Ampadu will be required to cover both roles.
