“I don’t speak about other players who are under contract at other clubs,” Farke said reporters. “I’m hesitant to remark on someone who is no longer under contract.

“Our fingers are crossed for Archie and his entire career. If you want a referral, he already has my phone number, but I keep what I propose fairly quiet.”

Postecoglou, the Spurs manager, still believes in his players and has commended them for their dedication despite a terrible run of losses. “Yes, it hurts,” he said. “It really aches. The players gave it all again.

“We are going to look at a lot of things, but in terms of effort I can’t ask anymore of this group, things just didn’t go our way today.”We produced several nice opportunities, but things didn’t fall our way because the players weren’t trying, which is the most important thing.

“The guys are doing everything they can. That is all we can ask for as a football team and myself as manager. They are doing their best, and that is all anyone can ask for.

“You can analyze the goals; they were frustrating for us to surrender, but I thought we had enough chances to win the game.
