According to sources who spoke to Football Insider, Tottenham is prepared to let go of Ashley Phillips before the transfer season closes.
The most likely course of action for the 19-year-old center defender before the deadline of August 31st is a loan move. Several teams have expressed interest in the young player, including Getafe.
Because Ange Postecoglou does not believe Phillips is ready to play center defense for Spurs yet, Phillips has not played much during the preseason. The defender has participated in five games for Tottenham’s Under-21 team but has not yet made a senior debut for the North London team.
In previous years, Phillips has had good loan stints, and this transfer should help him advance further.
Ashley Phillips can be offloaded by Tottenham.
Given that Phillips won’t likely receive many regular minutes under Postecoglou this season, a loan agreement outside of the team is seen to be optimal for both sides.
The center defender played in 18 Championship games while on loan at Plymouth Argyle during the previous campaign. Despite spending some time on loan at Blackburn Rovers, Phillips made just eight appearances in the previous campaign.
Ben Davies, a central defender who is in the last year of his contract, is one player who isn’t anticipated to leave the team during this window.
The 31-year-old wants to stay at Spurs for the current campaign, according to Football Insider, and Postecoglou is reportedly unconcerned about the circumstances.
