Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest have been informed that they may sign a former Premier League player for free this summer.
Both clubs have been among the most active in the league’s transfer market, with Unai Emery having already signed eight impressive new players. Although they haven’t spent as much, Forest have improved Nuno Espirito Santo’s team by signing superstars Elliot Anderson and Nikola Milenkovic, among three others.
That being said, TBR Football knows that both clubs have been approached about the availability of 33-year-old James Rodriguez.
Rodriguez, who recently finished his Copa America campaign with Colombia, has decided to leave Brazilian club Sao Paulo one year early. TBR knows that Rodriguez is eager to return to Europe, particularly England. The Colombian ‘superstar’ previously played 26 games for Carlo Ancelotti in the Premier League in 2021/22. Rodriguez had six goals and four assists during his tenure at Goodison Park, but he was limited by a calf injury throughout the season.
Colombian sensation James Rodriguez wants to return to the Premier League.
TBR can reveal that Rodriguez’s intermediaries have spoken with a number of European clubs who believe the midfielder still has a lot to give. Several Premier League clubs have been approached to inform them of Rodriguez’s availability, who would likely welcome the opportunity to improve on his Everton performances.
TBR can confirm that Aston Villa, Brighton and Hove Albion, Fulham, Nottingham Forest, and Wolverhampton Wanderers have all been approached.
Rodriguez is also interested in moving to Spain, with Sevilla a potential destination. Otherwise, the Colombian might join former Manchester United defender Raphael Varanae by moving to Cesc Fabregas’ Italian club Como.
Forest may see a potential for Rodriguez to provide backup for Morgan Gibbs-White during the season, even if it is all just hypothetical for now.
