According to John Percy, three Aston Villa scouts visited Leeds United’s Championship match against Norwich at Elland Road to watch Jonathan Rowe.
On January 25, the Telegraph journalist revealed via his X account that Villa continue to be interested in the winger, who has 12 goals and two assists for Norwich this season.
Villa are thought to be hopeful of striking a deal to acquire Morgan Rogers from Middlesbrough, but Rowe is also on their radar after scouts were deployed to watch him.
Interest is not a surprise.
Leeds would be happy that, of the flying Championship wingers on display at Elland Road, scouts focused on Rowe rather than Crysencio Summerville, who has also been chased by Premier League clubs such as Aston Villa this season.
Nobody should be surprised that clubs the magnitude of Aston Villa are interested in Rowe. He is having a fantastic season in the Championship after struggling with injuries last year and is emerging as one of the division’s best performers.
While he had little direct influence on the game at Elland Road, where Leeds won 1-0, Rowe was identified as Norwich’s standout player with the potential to cause problems.
His 12 goals and two assists this season have drawn the attention of Premier League clubs, and if they decide to sign him this month, it would be a significant blow to Norwich’s chances of promotion at the end of the season.
Leeds will let the attention continue, hoping that those three scouts did not notice anyone in white.
