With the transfer window approaching, Barcelona is making plans for the summer, with director Deco and president Joan Laporta both preoccupied with other projects.
Earlier today, we learnt that the Barcelona president met with Pini Zahavi, Robert Lewandowski‘s agent and managerial target Hansi Flick.
Laporta looks to have been keeping himself busy, since he just met with another agency.
Laporta met with Luis Diaz’s representative.
Indeed, according to sources from SPORT, Barcelona president Joan Laporta met with Carlos Van Strahlen. the agent for Liverpool forward Luis Diaz.
The Liverpool winger is making a good comeback from an injury that sidelined him for much of last season, and is now an unquestioned starter under Jurgen Klopp, with eleven goals and five assists.
Diaz was on Laporta‘s radar before his move to Liverpool, and it appears that the Barcelona president has not forgotten the Colombian international, as he dined with his agent.
Move unfeasible
According to the article, Laporta requested the hypothetical amounts required for Diaz to leave Liverpool and join Barcelona.
In response, the agent is thought to have mentioned a huge sum of roughly €120-140 million. Given his pivotal position in Liverpool’s project and the fact that his contract is up until 2027, the sum is not surprising.
Given Barcelona‘s financial needs, such a figure is out of the question, as Laporta informed Diaz’s representative. “It is unfeasible,” the Barcelona president is said to have responded.
As previously stated, Barça and Laporta were also interested in Diaz when he was at FC Porto. However, as the club’s president acknowledged in November 2022, the player was already in advanced talks with Liverpool when they made their move.
“There was almost no choice. When we arrived, he was a player that piqued our interest, but Liverpool was already in advanced talks with Porto,” stated the president.
Given the amounts involved, Diaz’s relocation this summer can be ruled out.
