According to La Nazione, Bartlomiej Dragowski has turned down offers from Cremonese, with Leeds United showing “strong” interest in him.
The Italian newspaper stated on January 12 that the Spezia goalkeeper has turned down any potential offers from the fellow Serie B team, while his present club is eager to sell him.
According to Fussball Transfers’ Dominik Schneider on 11 January, work is being done to find a move for the Pole and two teammates, but he will not be moving to the Whites’ Championship rivals Hull City due to his €1 million net per season [£860,000] wages.
Leeds United are considering the 26-year-old as a replacement for Illan Meslier, who is reportedly interested in Celta Vigo.
Last club standing?
Meslier‘s exit rumours has subsided dramatically since last season, when the Frenchman experienced a dreadful year that contributed to the Whites’ relegation from the Premier League.
Despite the summer addition of Karl Darlow, the long-term starter has held his number one spot for Daniel Farke, and his reputation has been mended to a good level over the first half of the season.
So any move to sign former Fiorentina goalkeeper Dragowski appears to be a long-term strategy, possibly to defend against a summer departure from Elland Road.
If Leeds United are not promoted back to the top division, it is expected that a number of their stars would leave.
Since Spezia was relegated to the Italian second tier, it appears that their Polish international’s wages are something they want to get rid of, and with Cremonese and Hull apparently out, the Whites may be their only viable alternative.
Whether this makes the terms of any sale more beneficial to Leeds is presumably what contributes to their reported interest, so a low-cost addition may make sense, but how Darlow will react is a relevant question.
