According to reports, Andy Robertson is at the top of Bayern Munich’s shortlist to replace Alphonso Davies, who is set to join Real Madrid.
The 23-year-old’s contract in Germany expires in 2025, and he appears to be preparing to transfer to the Spanish capital.
Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have failed to reach an agreement that would allow Davies to leave this summer. According to the Daily Mail, the Bundesliga’s top clubs are already planning his departure.
According to them, “Bayern have been aware of Davies‘s likely departure and have been collating reports on left-backs across the globe.
As a result, Liverpool’s No. 26 Robertson has been identified as the leading candidate to replace the vacancy at the Allianz Arena.
The source does acknowledge that “it would be a major challenge to prise Robertson away from Anfield“, but that Bayern — who are also keen in Liverpool managerial target Xabi Alonso — are “setting their sights high” on a top-class acquisition.
Robertson, who turns 30 next month, joined the Reds from Hull for £8 million in 2017 and has since become a tremendously popular character at the club.
The Scotland captain is a member of the club’s senior leadership group and has led Liverpool on three occasions.
He is also under contract until 2026, with the previous extension agreed three years ago, and a sale is improbable unless he officially requests to go.
Robertson has made only 13 Premier League games in 2023/24 after missing three months due to shoulder surgery.
Meanwhile, Liverpool is expected to hunt for defensive reinforcements this summer, with a left-sided centre back being one of the top priorities. To that aim, Anfield Watch previously reported on Liverpool‘s interest in Gonaclo Inacio (Sporting CP) and Piero Hincapie (Bayer Leverkusen).
