According to BBC commentator Adam Pope, Leeds United fans taunted Cardiff fans about losing their “Cup Final” after beating them 3-0 at Cardiff City Stadium.
Leeds dominated in South Wales, with Patrick Bamford, Daniel James, and Georginio Rutter all scoring, and there could have been many more as James struck the crossbar and Crysencio Summerville missed a penalty.
The victory would have been especially sweet for former Swansea players Joe Rodon and James, who were booed throughout the game while Leeds fans celebrated in the stands, insulting their opponents.
Pope told BBC Radio Leeds [13 January, 16:57]: “The Leeds fans sing ‘Three nil in your Cup Final.'”
“There are about 3000 of them in here, so it’s quite loud. That would do nicely, a thrashing of Cardiff in their own stadium; it might have been much more with the penalty, crossbar, and one-on-ones missing.”
Leeds supporters can be relentless.
Daniel Farke‘s team had a great day, recording their second 3-0 league win in a straight, and despite some wasted chances, they made it seem easy. It was a powerful performance in Cardiff, one that both players and spectators enjoyed.
Backed by a normally strong away crowd, those players gave it their best, as did the fans in the bleachers, to drag them to all three points, not that they needed to given the level of confidence and ability on display in South Wales.
3000 Leeds fans singing in the away end must have been a pleasant experience for the opposition, including the players and fans. They went through their repertoire of songs to taunt their opponents and stayed long after the final whistle.
It was a fantastic day all around for the Yorkshire club, which returned to league action with an overwhelming victory and will want to build on this momentum for many more days like today.
